In November, the Lower Moreland High School had the opportunity to attend the annual Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils (PASC) convention. This convention is held annually and aims to empower student leaders by fostering collaboration, idea sharing, and community building among schools across Pennsylvania. Through engaging workshops and leadership activities, participants gain new perspectives and practical skills to create positive change within their own student councils.
This year, the convention was held at Union Area High School, located in New Castle, Pennsylvania (a nearly 5-hour drive from Lower Moreland!), and took place from Friday, November 7th to Saturday, November 8th. Schools from around the state were able to gather together and share ideas to better their school communities.Â
The convention offered a variety of workshops and team bonding activities designed to help the student councils grow and learn various valuable skills. Workshop topics included public speaking, inclusion, facing fears, and so on.Â
The guest speaker of this year’s convention was Scott Backovich, a leadership speaker and trainer. He gave inspiring speeches to the whole group and hosted smaller workshops as well. Through his workshops, he provided several strategies to make schools a place where everyone feels welcomed.
Overall, the conference was a meaningful learning experience for the student council and an event that everyone enjoyed!
UPDATE: On February 21st, Lower Moreland presented their bid to PASC to host the State convention in 2027. It is our great pleasure to announce that the LM bid was accepted, and the school will be hosting in 2027!!
