2025 was an extremely successful year for the Girls Tennis Team. The 2025 Girls Tennis team again finished the season 5-0 in league play and won the League title, with an overall record of 10-3. This year, the team was led by Head Coach Cliff Raben and Assistant Coach Maël Kes, along with senior captains Jenna Nikhil and Abigail Yanovitsky and junior captain Sophia Cherepakhin. This season was marked by individual excellence, dominant performances, and statewide recognition for the team.
Our success kicked off early when Freshman Khaya Lukov won the Freedom Division Singles Championship on September 18th. Her outstanding play throughout the season earned her the title of Freedom Division Player of the Year, an incredible achievement for a freshman athlete. Just weeks later, Senior Abigail Yanovitsky and Freshman Natalie Chania won the Freedom Division Doubles Championship.

The three of them continued their winning ways at the District One 2A Championships, where Khaya claimed the Singles title and the duo of Abigail and Natalie secured the Doubles crown. Their victories helped the Lions reach the District playoffs. Lower Moreland defeated Jenkintown 5–0 and Villa Joseph Marie 4–1, securing their fifth straight District One 2A title.
At the PIAA 2A State Championships in Hershey on October 24th and 25th, the Lions advanced with confidence, winning their Quarterfinal match 4–0 and their Semifinal match 3–1. In an extremely competitive Finals rematch, they lost against Scranton Prep, the same team they defeated the previous year to win the state championship. Despite the loss, the Lions finished as state runners-up. Over the following weekend, Khaya, Natalie, and Abigail competed individually at the PIAA 2A Singles and Doubles Championships. All three reached the Quarterfinals before being eliminated; nonetheless, this season was an extremely successful one.
Adding to the program’s success, Head Coach Cliff Raben was named the 2024–2025 NFHS Girls Tennis Coach of the Year for Pennsylvania in early October. It’s a big honor to receive, and it shows how dominant a season the team had the prior year as well. With the JV team showing great promise during the course of the season, hopes for the team’s continued success are high.
