Meet LMHS’ Newest Teachers

Sonia Singh and Joey O'Brien

We asked some of LM’s new teachers to introduce themselves to the school.

Ms. Mulroy, Art Long Term Substitute

Which colleges did you attend?

I attended Temple University and Tyler School of Art.

Why did you decide to pursue teaching?

I decided to pursue teaching because I always had an interest in learning and wanted to share my passion for art with others! I also wanted to be a mentor to young people who are creative and help them discover their artistic interests. I am hoping to inspire others into entering creative career fields.

Ms. Pena, Spanish Long Term Substitute

I decided to pursue teaching to have the opportunity to share my culture and  at the same time teaching my native language. I believe that learning Spanish is very important, especially in the Philadelphia area due to the high amount of latini population.

Mr. Dominick, English Long Term Substitute

Which colleges did you attend?

I attended Duquesne University for my undergraduate degree and graduated in 2006. Then I took about a year and a half off, and started my Master’s Degree in English at Villanova in 2008. I graduated from there in 2012.

Why did you decide to pursue teaching?

I feel really blessed to be able to say that I had some incredible English teachers during high school. In many ways, they inspired me to go into education, but I think I always had an idea that it could be a profession that I would pursue. I had a professor in college who taught one of my Shakespeare courses, and I try to emulate him in my classroom. He always struck that delicate balance between entertaining and teaching.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

This is going to sound really bland, but I don’t think there is anything wrong with vanilla ice cream. Maybe throw some whipped cream on there to spruce it up.

What is your favorite movie/TV show?

This is such a hard question, but Jaws is definitely my favorite movie. I have this vivid memory of seeing it when I was 6, so that may be why it has stuck with me. The acting, directing, everything is first rate, and I think it still holds up today. Unlike probably everyone else since March, I have not watched a lot of TV recently. But I love Jeopardy and try to catch every episode I can. Rest in peace, Alex Trebek.

Mr. Mayson also started as an English teacher this year.
