Lower Moreland High School (LMHS) is bringing the beloved and well-known musical Mamma Mia! to life this spring! The show will feature ABBA hits, high-energy dance numbers, and a heartwarming story of love, laughter, and self-discovery. The musical will run on April 3rd, 4th, and 5th at 7 PM in the Lower Moreland Middle School (LMMS) Auditorium, with a special 1 PM matinee on Saturday, April 5th.
Set on a Greek island, Mamma Mia! follows Sophie, a young woman preparing for her wedding who invites three men—each a possible father of hers—to her big day in hopes of uncovering the truth. Meanwhile, her mother Donna and her two best friends, Rosie and Tanya, relive their youthful adventures, leading to many hilarious and touching moments.
This year’s cast features Alyssa Gottesman as Tanya, Adrienne Nicastro as Donna, and Vivienne McGarrigle as Rosie, forming the iconic trio, The Dynamos. According to Alyssa, “I am super, super excited for the show, and it’s so bittersweet that it’s my last!” This show was such a great choice because most people are familiar with the music, and it’ll be fun for everyone to sing along, especially during the ‘megamix’ finale, where we invite the audience to dance and sing with us.”
For some students, Mamma Mia! marks their first time performing in a musical, and the experience has been unforgettable. “It has made it possible for me to meet so many cool people in Drama Club. I’ve learned new choreography, improved my dance skills, and enjoyed singing all the songs,” shared Zoe Keal, who is in the chorus.
Putting on a production of this scale takes serious commitment. Rehearsals have been running five days a week since January, with vocal, choreography, and blocking sessions filling the schedule. As opening night nears, rehearsals stretch to three or four hours, including an eight-hour run-through. “The musical takes a ton of time and effort inside and outside of practices,” one student explained. “It’s a huge commitment, but drama is such a good way to socialize, learn more about yourself, and become a better person.”
Director Leah Abramson shared why the production team selected Mamma Mia! for this year’s show. “It gives a large number of students the opportunity to shine on stage and have fun singing and dancing,” she explained. “Our drama club is a big, fun, and enthusiastic family ready to share our talents with the community!”
Therefore, whether you’re a lifelong ABBA fan or new to the magic of Mamma Mia!, this show promises to be a feel-good experience full of joy, nostalgia, and spectacular performances. Do not miss your chance to be part of the excitement—grab your tickets and get ready to dance in the aisles!
