Interact Club
The Interact Club, which has been led by Dr. Mollett since 2019, aims to help the community and support the less fortunate. Dr. Mollett is supported by a leadership team consisting of Co-Presidents Jessie Becker and Amanda Usonis, Co-Vice Presidents Anna Akhobadze and Eliana Rubin, Secretary Sarah Goldy, and Anabela Relvas, who have all been involved with the club since their freshman year. The club not only provides opportunities for those in need, but is also a resource for those who want to make a difference.
The club’s leaders aim to expand their outreach each year, and student attendance and support at club events are crucial to helping achieve this goal. The Interact Club supports various organizations through creative fundraisers. Their most recent fundraiser was a car wash for Project HEAL (Help to Eat, Accept, and Live), an organization that aids individuals battling eating disorders.
The club also collaborates with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for the annual spring walk. This walk aims to raise awareness and support survivors and affected families. It’s an inclusive event, open to people of all age groups facing similar issues.
Another event organized by the Interact Club is a food drive for the Willow Grove Food Pantry. The LMHS Interact Club will work collaboratively this year with the LMMS Interact Club, which is supervised by Mrs. Amanda Handfinger. The clubs will collect food for Thanksgiving and the holiday season. If you’d like to help, you can reach out to Dr. Mollett at [email protected] or Mrs. Handfinger at [email protected]. Donations of items or your time are always appreciated. Your support can make a difference in the lives of those in need.
Muslim Student Association
LM takes pride in its diverse student body, which is fostered by various student-led clubs aiming to raise awareness and understanding of different cultures, lifestyles, and religions.
One student looking to enhance school diversity is the sophomore class president, Rehan Rana, who created the Muslim Student Association (MSA) on February 20, 2024. The purpose of the club is to foster a supportive and inclusive community representing Muslim students on campus, giving them a home at LMHS, and encouraging interfaith dialogue to strengthen cultural understanding.
The MSA aspires to create an environment that emphasizes respect, inclusivity, and community service, positively contributing to both our school and the wider community. The MSA strives to promote unity and support spiritual development through educational programs, social events, community service, fundraisers, and other opportunities.
An essential principle of Islam is charity and giving back. The MSA aims to organize many educational programs and at least one community service event each marking period that welcomes all students in LM, whether Muslim or not. Additionally, they plan to host fundraisers to raise at least $1000 for the club’s expenses and to donate to various charities.
If you’re interested in learning about Islam, the MSA meetings are inclusive and engaging, featuring fun activities like cultural/Islamic events, food fairs, and discussions. Whether you’re looking to deepen your understanding of Islam, connect with others, make an impact, or develop leadership skills, the MSA has it all. Dropping by during these meetings and showing your support can help the club accomplish its goal of increasing active membership by 25%.
Asian Cultures Club
Diversity at LMHS is cultivated through students such as Sammy Li, the president of the Asian Cultures Club (ACC). In the words of Sammy, “The Asian Cultures Club at our school was created to celebrate the vibrant and diverse cultures across Asia.” This club was created as an inclusive space where students from all backgrounds can come together to explore and appreciate the rich traditions, customs, and histories of various Asian communities.
Such rich and varying cultures and lifestyles should be shared with everyone since there is always more to learn. Whether you want to support your friends or gain more insight into the cultures present in your school, make sure to come to the meetings that are held every Monday. The goal of the ACC is to promote cultural exchange, build understanding, and encourage inclusivity within the school. Through events, meetings, and activities, ACC strives to highlight the beauty and diversity of Asian heritage.
Asia is a vast continent with countless cultural communities, and there’s always something new to discover. By showing up and supporting the ACC we can create a community where everyone can learn from one another and break down cultural barriers. Understanding different cultures strengthens our school community and helps us understand each other better. Instead of dividing us, the diverse cultures from different continents are reasons for us to communicate, understand each other’s cultures, and unite over the similarities in our lifestyles.
Coding Club
The Coding Club of Lower Moreland is led by Mr. Cella and President Liya Ma this year. The Coding Club was established with the intention of providing students with a platform to explore coding and meet other students with similar passions. Coding is an essential skill that can always be used: it fosters creativity, problem-solving, persistence, and attention to detail. By learning to code, you open up a world of possibilities, including graphics, and your career choices expand once you learn to code.
The club’s objectives include reaching more people and getting more people interested in the vast field of computer science, whether this means being accessible to all skill levels or encouraging girls to enter the traditionally male-dominated field of STEM. This year, the club is looking to increase its membership; you can help the club achieve this goal by dropping by during their next meeting and showing your support.
The club also aspires to finish a project this year much like their creative projects from the past years, including 2048 and a celebrity look-alike factor. The coding club welcomes individuals of all skill levels and is always eager to accept new members.
Literary Magazine
The Literary Magazine is led by Dr. Lincow, who has worked hard to produce an engaging magazine each year. Dr. Lincow is supported by an incredible leadership team consisting of Mia Dubin, Eden George, Katelyn Heller, Cara Torgan, and Madyn Tammaro. Whether the art is writing, music, paintings, drawings, or photographs, the Literary Magazine has always welcomed and recruited artists to have an opportunity to be published for their talents.
The magazine was originally produced on paper with photos of the artwork. About 4 years ago, the magazine was switched to an online version in order to save paper and to give a more contemporary look to the magazine. The members work hard every year to capture the feel of the year and assign the artwork into sub-divisions according to themes. One of the club leaders, Eden George, sees it as her goal in the club to successfully capture the theme of every year.
In terms of goals, the leadership of this club aspires for the club to be a force for creativity, and to find unity in forms of self-expression. The magazine is an outlet where all forms of creativity are showcased to lead the path for those who want to inspire through their art. Mia Dubin, a member of the leadership team, understands and wants LM to know that no limit can be placed on creativity. Any form of self-expression is considered art in the eyes of the magazine. In the words of Mia, “I can confidently say that Lit Mag has been a magical club that has motivated me to continue to explore my creativity!”
The club has always supported as well as sought out artists irrespective of their form of expression. Any art is a form of self-expression, and your art can help connect you to like-minded people or people who simply appreciate your talents; the Literary Magazine has made that possible for the entirety of LM. So, the next time you make some art please consider sending it to Dr. Lincow or any of the leadership team members. You can also support the magazine by checking it out once it’s been published as well as appreciating the featured artists.
K-Club
Continuing with the topic of the vast diversity at LM, students Christie and Grace Kwon started a club called K-club in 2023. This club was started to provide an opportunity to share and learn about Korean traditions, languages, and cultures of LMHS students. There is always something to be learned from exploring various cultures, and sometimes people from the same culture can have completely opposite traditions. This incredible knowledge has been made available to you thanks to various students who wish to promote unity and diversity.
The club aspires to promote diversity and inclusivity as well as encourage students to appreciate different backgrounds and perspectives. A major goal for the K-club is to organize fundraisers to donate to the Lower Moreland Fire Department as well as raise money for a field trip for club members. As always, your support and attendance at club meetings will help the club achieve its goals.
Badminton Club
The Badminton club was co-founded earlier this year by juniors Sarah Goldy and Afsona Erkinova, who are both passionate about badminton. They noticed a lot of students shared their enthusiasm for badminton and wanted to create an opportunity for others to pursue their hobbies and improve their skills.
The Badminton club’s main goal is just to create a fun environment for students to enjoy badminton. In the words of Sarah, “We want students to just come in and have fun,. They don’t need to come every week, and they don’t even have to stay for the whole hour. As much time as they can come for, we’re happy to have them.”
Since the club is brand new, the idea of becoming a team and competing seems very far away for them, but they’re content at the moment just making it a fun, low-commitment activity. The leaders just want all badminton enthusiasts to show up, play for as long as they want, and have a good time.
