“Mean is easier than nice. And though mean can take you far, maybe this will make you think twice” (Excerpt from the song “A Cautionary Tale” from Mean Girls on Broadway). On April 11th, 12th, and 13th, Lower Moreland’s Drama Club performed the Mean Girls musical at 7 PM in the auditorium. Talking to Leah Abramson, the Director of the club, she said, “We chose this show for LM because it is a fan favorite of most of the drama club members (they have been begging the production staff to do it for several years now). Also, more importantly, Mean Girls provides an opportunity for meaningful dialogue about healthy vs. unhealthy friendships, social media, bullying, and other important topics that adolescents face on a daily basis.”
Everyone can agree that the musical was a huge success. Every night, the auditorium was packed with an excited and cheering audience. The producers and stage managers were all very proud of how the performance turned out, and the cast had an amazing time tapping into the roles of the characters. Emerson Jung, who played Gretchen Wieners, said, “I’ve been in Drama Club since 5th grade, and this year honestly was the most fun I’ve had with a show. Playing Gretchen really helped me grow confidence as a performer. I loved tapping into her teenage insecurities while also being a mean girl. She had so many layers of emotions intertwined, and it was fun to play with her solo moments and interactions with other characters.”
This rendition of Mean Girls may be better than the actual musical! It was so much fun to watch, and the performances were genuinely captivating. It did a great job of capturing the day-to-day struggles of modern teenagers with a humorous aspect. The cast and production team all had a great time working together, and their hard work paid off. Congratulations to the cast of Mean Girls for a wonderful spring musical!
