Mini-THON has been successful for the last 17 years, and this year was no different. The money raised goes towards research for pediatric cancer through the Four Diamonds Fund, which was founded in the 1970s by Charles and Irma Millard, parents of Christopher, a victim of pediatric cancer. Each year, hundreds of students from Lower Moreland High School stand for twelve hours from 10 AM to 10 PM to raise awareness for the underfunded disease.

This year on November 11th, Lower Moreland had over 500 students participate, surpassing the totals for any previous year. The event also set a new record for total money raised, with $217,610.40 collected for the Four Diamonds Fund. Seniors were victorious in the games after the juniors won last year. Additionally, each year, Lower Moreland invites special speakers to the event, and this year, we welcomed the Zoubroulis family, Jen Burke, and Sarah’s Smiles. Each shared their personal stories and experiences with pediatric cancer.

The success of the event is the result of the dedication of Lower Moreland Students, moderators Mr. Matthew Preedy and Ms. Cody Pearson, and the captains of Mini-THON, who devoted their time and energy to making Mini-THON a success. Without the dedication of Lower Moreland’s Mini-THON captains, the event would not have been as successful as it was this year.
Mini-THON Head Madison Heller said, “Mini-THON overall has been such an eye-opening experience for me, and seeing the whole Lower Moreland community unite under one common cause is something I will always hold close to my heart. Being one of the Overall Heads this year and last taught me so much, and it has truly changed my perspective on the big and little things in life. I can’t wait to see all that is accomplished in the future our Mini-THON and to one day find that cure. FTK forever.”
Elle Goldman, the other senior Head, also stated, “Mini-THON is so special for so many reasons. It’s about a community of kids working to help other kids and make a difference in the world. Through THON, I have learned how important it is to be a part of something bigger than yourself, and I aim to inspire others to do the same every day. There is no greater feeling than seeing all of our months of hard work pay off after raising over $217k and knowing that I am contributing to a brighter future for families and children battling pediatric cancer. FTK always.”
Congratulations again to all of the Mini-THON dancers for another successful year!!
