Have you ever been interested in learning to play guitar? If so, you should think about joining LM’s new Guitar Club! The club is a great opportunity for those who are interested in the instrument but not sure where to start. Founded by current sophomore Johnny Yang, the club was created this year to provide a space in which students who are passionate about the art of guitar could collaborate and learn. They mainly provide lessons on basic skills to give their members the resources to develop their playing abilities.
I interviewed Johnny to get a better understanding of the club’s mission, goals, and activities.
Why did you decide to create Guitar Club?
“I decided to come up with the club because I have a passion for playing guitar. I think it’s really fun, and I believe that when students come together and learn a new instrument we can foster a stronger relationship at Lower Moreland. People can build connections and make new friends.”
What do members do at an average meeting?
“At an average meeting currently, we plan to go through and teach the basic skills that you need for guitar. Because fundamentally for guitar, if you learn to read the music, master the basic techniques, and learn basic chord shapes, you can learn almost any song. Throughout our meetings, we want to go through those basic skills so that when people pick up a guitar they’ll be comfortable playing it.”
What is your favorite part of the club?
“Just getting to see new people come out, probably stepping outside of their comfort zone, to try a new instrument like guitar is my favorite part of the club.”
The club had their first meeting November 13th, and there are weekly meetings held in the Orchestra Room after school. If you are interested in joining but haven’t already, the Google Classroom code is 2wqmzgy!
Guitar club is clearly a great way for students in the community to bond over a common interest. Not only does the new club allow members to develop their guitar skills, it also gives them opportunities to make new friends and work together with their peers. All skill levels are welcomed, whether you’re an experienced player or complete beginner; you should think about joining if you have not already if you are passionate about guitar!

Johnny- thanks for starting this club. You are at the forefront of a very important activity that combines interest, talents, opportunities to build friends, and a place for people who are “searching” for something new.
